Late David Lewis (Father of former Late sexton(miron) John Lewis) had brought the altar to his residence at Baikady in around 1870’s. During those days (around 1880’s) when our church members got separated from Milagres church, Kallianpur, they did not have a church/ place for worship. At this time Fr. Alvaris (later known as Bishop Alvaris Mar Julias I, Metropolitan India, Goa, Ceylon) had come to Brahmavar. As there was no appropriate place for worship, the priests used to conduct mass in houses at different places, where people used to gather in large numbers to glorify the Lord. In Baikady, the services were conducted on this altar, which was in David Lewis’s residence. Fr. Alvaris had conducted mass on this altar. Later, Fr. R. Z. Noronha came to Brahmavar and he too performed the Holy Eucharist on this altar. This continued until a temporary church was built in Brahmavar under the leadership of Fr. Alvaris.

After few years, John Lewis and his family shifted to Brahmavar, but the altar was left in Baikady house itself. Thus, the altar was left unattended for a few years. It was during this time John Lewis’s son Borja Lewis fell ill. Day by day his condition was getting worse. The family was praying for his recovery. One night, John Lewis had got a vision saying the altar is kept in dark. He did not take this matter seriously. Next day, Borja Lewis’s condition was critical. That night, again, John Lewis got the same vision for the second time. It was then, he decided to bring the altar back to his house from Baikady. The moment, John Lewis brought the altar to his house, Borja Lewis’s condition started improving and after a few days he was completely healed. The family then understood the importance of this altar. From then onwards, the altar was never left unattended. Later, the altar was in Late Peter Victor Lewis’s house and currently it is in Edwin Richard Lewis’s residence in Brahmavar.

Lewis family, Brahmavar has decided to give this altar to St. Mary’s Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar. So that all the people can take the benefit out of this altar.
